OnePlus 9 Series in China to Run on ColorOS 11

Last week, a couple of leaked shots of the OnePlus 9 series handset running on ColorOS 11 based Android 11 OS were seen on Weibo. The images appeared fishy since OnePlus smartphones are known to ship with HydrogenOS UI in China. It appears that the images were not fake as OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed today that the OnePlus 9 series will indeed arrive with ColorOS onboard in China.

Lau claimed that while the OnePlus 9 series will come with ColorOS 11 in China, the older OnePlus phones will continue to run on Hydrogen OS with regular updates. In markets outside of China, the OnePlus 9 models will be running on the OxygenOS UI based Android 11 OS.

Reports have revealed that the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro smartphones will be powered by Snapdragon 888 chipset and a 4,500mAh battery. Both phones will carry support for 65W Warp Charge technology. The vanilla model may come with 15W wireless charging support, whereas the Pro variant may arrive with 50W wireless charging.

The OnePlus 9 may come with a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design. On the other side, the OnePlus 9 Pro may feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a punch-hole design and curved edges. Both phones will offer a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The leaked renders of the OnePlus 9 have revealed that it has a triple camera system, while the Pro model is fitted with a quad-camera setup. Both handsets have a Sony IMX789 48-megapixel primary camera and a Sony IMX766 50-megapixel ultrawide lens.

The global launch of the OnePlus 9 series will be held tomorrow. On Wednesday, the company will hold a dedicated launch event in China to announce next-generation flagships.
