OPPO Find X8 Pro Review: An Ultra Flagship Phone with Incredible Photography Capabilities

When I reviewed the OPPO Find X5 Pro back in 2022, it easily made its way to the top of my list of favourite flagship phone at that point of time as the phone not only impressed me with its seamless unibody aesthetic, but also marvelled me with its hardware excellence. In fact, I enjoyed using the phone so much that I decide to call it the epitome of a flagship phone.

Hence, I was deeply disappointed when OPPO decided not to launch the Find X6 series smartphones in the global market last year despite all the positive reviews it garnered in the domestic market. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case anymore for the new Find X8 series device which finally made its way to the local market last Wednesday.

Courtesy of OPPO Singapore, I had the chance to test out the new Find X8 Pro for over two weeks and once again, I can safely say this is one of the best high-end phone you can get in the market that offers a perfect balance between price and performance.

Design: Next Level Of Elegance

Starting off with the design of the phone, the new Find X8 Pro features an outstanding “Cosmos Ring” camera design which makes a strong statement about the camera prowess of the device. Besides offering a more premium-look, having the camera island at the centre has another benefit as it helps to prevent our index finger from getting in the way when taking photos or recording videos in landscape orientation.

One aspect that really sets the Find X8 Pro apart from other flagship phones is the impressive slimness and the lightweight nature of the device which makes it a great joy to hold and use even with one hand. And like any other expensive device, the Find X8 Pro also features a rich glass and aluminium construction which adds an extra touch of opulence to the handling experience.

The model I had for review comes in an elegant Pearl White colourway which casts a unique pearlescent shimmer whenever it catches light. This one-of-a-kind finish was made possible using advanced multi-layered process which ensures no two devices share the same final effect – making them unique in their own way.

Over at the frontside, the OPPO Find X8 Pro continues to impress with a spacious 6.78” display that provides plenty of screen estate for work and play. The display itself is based on a pro-grade LTPO AMOLED panel which looks crisp and vibrant regardless whether I’m using the phone in an indoor or outdoor environment with strong ambient light.

As expected from a high-end device, the front display supports many other advanced features including a fast 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 10-bit colour depth as well as Dolby Vision to ensure you’re able to enjoy an ultra-immersive when playing games or watching your favourite Netflix series.

This time round, the front display is also equipped with the new Splash Touch technology which was first popularized by the OPPO Reno12 series (Review) devices. This is a useful but often overlooked feature which ensures the screen to function correctly even when the screen or the user’s hands are wet.

Performance: All The Power You Need Under The Hood

Under the hood, the OPPO Find X8 Pro is powered by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset which provides the phone with serious amount of power to handle even the most resource-demanding tasks such as mobile gaming or high-res video editing. This will be accompanied by an ample 16GB RAM and 512GB storage which uses the LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 technologies for a seamless multi-tasking experience.

To keep its lights on, the Find X8 Pro also packs a gargantuan 5,910mAh battery which breezes through the day even with several hours of gameplay in between during my daily commuting. In fact, on the days when I used the phone moderately with minimal gaming and photography, I actually found myself getting up to two days of battery life as well. That’s how enduring the Find X8 Pro’s battery life is.

Charging-wise, the phone also supports a blazing-fast 80W SuperVOOC wired charging solution that’s capable of delivering a full charge from 0 to 100% in slightly under an hour mark. Wireless charging is available too, but recharges at a much slower 50W charging speed.

Cameras: The Best Zoom Lenses Around

Now, onto the most exciting facet of the smartphone – its groundbreaking quad-camera system co-developed with Swedish photography giant Hasselblad. These cameras include a 50MP (f/1.6 aperture) main camera, a 50MP (f/2.0 aperture) ultra-wide camera, a 50MP (f/2.6 aperture) telephoto camera as well as a 50MP (f/4.3 aperture) ultra telephoto unit.

Its main camera, which uses a 1/1.4 inch Sony LYT808 sensor, excels at capturing stunning photos with impressive dynamic range and detail regardless of lighting conditions, rivalling or even surpassing other flagship phones on the market.

More importantly, Hasselblad’s collaboration also significantly enhances the camera’s colour reproduction, making it more precise than ever. This results in photos that are vibrant yet natural, closely resembling what we perceive with our own eyes.

Other than that, the new Find X8 Pro introduces several innovative AI features to further elevate your mobile photography experience. Notable additions include AI Eraser, which lets users effortlessly remove unwanted passersby from photos with a single tap, and AI Best Face, which uses advanced GenAI technology to detect individuals with closed eyes in photos and seamlessly “reopen” them, ensuring none of your shots go to waste.

The ultra-wide camera is equally impressive. It uses a 50MP Samsung 5KJN5 sensor that’s capable of delivering image quality comparable to the main camera, making it an excellent choice for enthusiasts of landscape and architectural photography. Moreover, the availability of autofocus also allows it to capture flattering close-up photos of flowers with intricate details and accurate colour rendering.

While these features alone are already enough to please the user, the main highlight actually lies in the pair of periscope cameras that offer class-leading zoom performance which give users the ability to capture crisp and clear photo of distant subjects with 3x or 6x optical zoom. In fact, the Find X8 Pro is the first globally available smartphone to feature two periscope cameras.

When going beyond the optical zoom range, you’ll be surprised that the phone will still be able to capture acceptably-good image quality at up to 30x digital zoom even in low-light scenarios (feel free to check out the video above to experience the impressive zoom system offered by the Find X8 Pro). This is possible thanks to the new AI Telescope Zoom feature which uses computational photography to improve the image quality of the resulting photos.

Verdict

Priced at S$1,499, the OPPO Find X8 Pro offers a more affordable option compared to most competing flagship models without making any compromise. Its easily one of the best flagship phone you can get in the market that offers a complete package for a premium smartphone experience, making it perfect choice for any user.

For those who’re interested, the OPPO Find X8 Pro is available for purchase through M1, Singtel, Starhub, OPPO Concept Stores, the official OPPO website, OPPO Online Flagship Stores on iShopChangi, KrisShop, Lazada, Shopee, TikTok, and Zalora, major consumer electronic stores, and all other authorised retailers.
