OPPO Reno12 Pro Review: OPPO Impresses Once Again!

OPPO recently announced its latest Reno12 series smartphone offerings in the local market that includes a pair of new devices namely the vanilla Reno12 as well as a higher-end Reno12 Pro. The two models, according to OPPO, represent a new chapter in the history of the popular OPPO Reno Series and is the first major release under OPPO’s commitment to accelerate the adoption of AI Phones.

Thanks to OPPO Singapore, I had the chance to test out the new OPPO Reno12 Pro for over two weeks and here’s my honest opinion on this latest handset.

OPPO Reno12 Pro: Design

Like any of the past OPPO Reno series smartphones, design remains at the forefront of the new Reno12 Pro which is indisputably one of the best-looking mid-range phone you can probably get in the market. This is especially true for the Nebula Silver model that comes with a head-turning 3D visual effect reminiscent of peaceful ripples and waves flowing across phone. In fact, I find this design even more appealing than the already gorgeous “Reno Glow” design that we saw on the past generation’s Reno smartphones.

In case you ain’t a fan of such striking design, Reno12 Pro is also available in a slightly more understated, classy-looking Space Brown colorway which features a two-tone matte-gloss design with two halves naturally separated by a chic metallic ribbon running horizontally across the back of the phone.

When holding the Reno12 Pro on hand, you’ll be hard-pressed to tell that the phone is a mid-ranger. It dons a glass back with a smooth matte finish which not only makes the phone feels much more premium, but also offers excellent resistance to fingerprints and smudges which allows the phone to preserve its glorious design.

At the front, the Reno12 Pro continues to impress with the brand new Infinite View Screen which adopts a revolutionary quad micro-curve screen design that combines the aesthetics of a curved screen with the grip of a flat screen in order to provide exceptional comfort and fully immersive visuals, while significantly reducing the number of accidental touches that occur on the curved edge of the screen.

The 6.7” display itself is based on a high-end OLED panel that looks sharp and vibrant regardless whether you’re using the phone in an indoor or outdoor environment. Aside from that, it also supports a fast 120Hz refresh rate which makes gaming way more enjoyable thanks to the smooth visuals.

However, what really makes the Reno12 Pro’s display stands out from its competitors is the new OPPO Splash Touch technology, a proprietary solution that allows the screen to function correctly even when the screen or the user’s hands are wet.

OPPO Reno12 Pro: Performance

Under the hood, the OPPO Reno12 Pro is helmed by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset which has the calibre to provide a fantastic user experience with rapid app loading and smooth multi-tasking. For those who may not know, this is actually a custom chipset exclusively designed for the Reno12 series smartphones which promises 30% improved power efficiency compared to the standard version.

This advanced chipset will be paired with an ample 12GB LPDDR5 RAM which further ensures a smooth multi-tasking experiences with seamless transition when working across multiple apps. Storage-wise, it also comes with an ample 512GB storage capacity which allows user to store countless of apps and media contents on the device so you doesn’t have to worry about overcapacity.

To keep its lights on, the OPPO Reno12 Pro is backed by a respectable 5,000mAh battery that easily provides me with more than a day’s battery life even with several hours of gameplay during my daily commuting. And for those who use the phone only for simple tasks like texting and social media consumption, you won’t be surprised to see yourself getting up to two day’s worth of battery life.

In the event that the battery runs out, the Reno12 Pro also supports an ultra-fast 80W SuperVOOC charging solution that’s able recharge a completely flat battery from 0 to 100% in around 40 minutes.

OPPO Reno12 Pro: Cameras

Moving on to the imaging side of things, OPPO has equipped the Reno12 Pro with a versatile triple-camera system that can handle all sorts of photography. These cameras include a 50 megapixels (f/1.8 aperture), 50 megapixels (f/2.0 aperture) telephoto camera as well as an 8 megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) ultra-wide camera.

The main camera. which uses the latest Sony LYTIA series LYT-600 imaging sensor, has the ability to capture amazing photos with excellent dynamic range and details regardless of lighting condition. Likewise, the camera also masters exposure remarkably well, resulting in photos that look natural – just like what we saw with our own eyes.

Hardware-aside, the Reno12 Pro also drafts in several new software features to heighten your overall mobile photography experience. Some of the more interesting features include AI Eraser which allows user to easily remove passing strangers in photos with a simple tap, as well as AI Best Face which automatically identify people in photos with closed eyes and use advanced GenAI technology to reopen those eyes, so that none of your photos goes to waste.
