OPPO’s 150W SuperVOOC Charger Launched, 240W Charging Tech Demoed

At the Mobile World Congress 2022, OPPO unveiled its 150W SuperVOOC charger. The company also demoed 240W charging tech as the world’s fastest charging technology for smartphones.

According to OPPO, a prototype device with a 4,500mAh dual-cell battery charged from 1 percent to 50 percent in just 5 minutes in a laboratory test. A 100 precent charge was achieved in a total of 15 minutes. The charger outputs 7.5A at 20V and each battery unit of the prototype can be charged at the rate of 5V / 15A.

The 150W SuperVOOC charger uses the GaN technology and it weighs around 172 grams. It measures 58 x 57 x 30mm and is not too big as the 65W SuperVOOC adaptor. The 150W SuperVOOC charger also supports other charging standards such as USB-PD and PPS, which makes it possible to charge other devices including laptops.

The first phone to arrive with support for 150W SuperVOOC charging support will be a OnePlus, which may debut between April and June this year. To recall, Realme recently confirmed that the upcoming Realme GT Neo3 will come equipped with support for 150W UltraDart fast charging tech.

At the MWC 2022 event, OPPO also showcased its Smart Battery Health algorithm that constantly checks the negative electrode to see the appearance of dead lithium ions that are unable to carry charge. The Chinese manufacturer uses a durable film called the Solid Electrolyte Interface (SEI) on the battery electrodes to prevent degradation. In order to extend the battery’s lifespan, OPPO uses a special formula for the electrolyte that continuously repairs the SEI layer while it is charging and discharging.

OPPO is also working on 240W SuperVOOC charging solution. It released the above-shown demo video to reveal its capabilities. As can be seen, it can completely charge a 4,500mAh battery phone in just 9 minutes.
