Poly Voyager Focus 2 Review: Noise-cancellation At It’s Best!

The ongoing pandemic has made working from home a norm for some of us. It is therefore crucial for us to have a dependable workstation to accomplish all our daily tasks and perhaps most importantly, maintain our high level of productivity.

So what actually constitute a dependable workstation, you may ask. For most of us, the initial thoughts that came to our mind probably revolve around having a capable computer, ergonomic office chair and desk. Those answers are right, and they are in fact the fundamental aspects of it.

However, having those alone wouldn’t form a complete package as most of us often overlook one important aspect of having a quality headphone with superior noise cancellation capability.

Just like how having a wide and sharp display is important for a comfortable viewing experience, a top-grade noise-cancellation is a pre-requisite for good audio experience as it not only allows you to listen clearly, but also keeps you focused on the task at hand by blocking out all disruptive noises in the surrounding.

Poly Voyager Focus 2 Design -1

In Singapore, the Poly Voyager Focus 2 is one these high-end headphone that aim to deliver a premium listening experience for business users. Having spent more than two weeks with the Poly Voyager Focus 2, we are thrilled to share some of our favorite features of this highly capable model.

A Classy, Professional-looking Design

Being a business / enterprise-focused headphone, it’s no surprise that the Poly Voyager Focus 2 dons a classy, professional design which looks good on any formal outfit during a conference call.

On the outside of the headphone, it’s constructed with premium material such as faux leather that covers the headband and ear cushions which are made of soft memory foam that offers great comfort even with prolonged usage.

The headband itself can be easily adjusted to keep it in place with a right amount of clamping force. This is something important since too much of a clamping force would cause discomfort after some time, while too little would cause the headphone to feel weighty on your head.

Thanks to it’s right amount of claiming force and it’s lightweight construction, the headphone’s presence is also hardly felt despite wearing it for three to four hours continuously.

Most importantly, button controls on the ear cup are also situated in a way that can be mastered after several day of usage since there’s nothing too sophisticated about them.

Noise-cancellation At It’s Best!

One of the main reasons why business users opt for an on-ear headset is the unparalleled noise-cancellation that they offer over those with an in-ear design. It is therefore important for a high-end headphone to be able to live up with such demand.

Glad to say, the Poly Voyager Focus 2 scores highly in this aspect through it’s excellent passive and active noise-cancellation features. Unlike the latter, the former relies heavily on the design of the overall ear cup and in the Voyager Focus 2’s case, it’s well-designed ear cup provides sufficient sealing to block out a good amount of ambient noise.

Moving on to it’s active noise-cancellation (ANC) department, the Poly Voyager Focus 2 employs a Digital Hybrid ANC consisting of two digital MEMS microphones and 2 analog ECM microphones.

Like most other headphones, it comes with three levels of noise cancellation – off, mid and high – which will be handy in different occasions. For instance, toggling ANC to ”off” will allow users to become aware of their surrounding which can be useful whenever you need to talk to someone in the house or in the office.

Editors’ Picks

On the other hand, setting it to high will offer users the maximum level of noise cancellation that works reliably well in blocking out all the unwanted noise from a busy construction site or perhaps an inconsiderate neighbour. After trying it out for awhile, it’s safe to say that the Poly Voyager Focus 2 has one of the best active noise-cancellation functionality among premium headphones.

Excellent Sound Quality, For Yourself And Your Colleague

Noise-cancellation is no doubt a standout feature for the Poly Voyager Focus 2, but let’s not forget that it’s sound quality is equally impressive too. For work, you’ll be able to get crisp voices over the headphone during a Zoom meeting.

Likewise, your colleagues on the receiving end is also able to hear your voice loud and clear thanks to it’s Acoustic Fence technology. This is in fact a remarkable feature that creates a ”virtual noise-free bubble” in front of your mouth, so that unwanted noise outside of this bubble will not be picked up.

Work aside, the Poly Voyager Focus 2 also serves well for other entertainment purposes such as gaming, so you prolly won’t need to spend any extra for an additional gaming headset.

Much-needed Multipoint Connectivity

As an enterprise-focused headphone, support for Bluetooth multipoint connectivity is definitely a much-needed feature as it allows the headphone to remain connected to two different devices at the same time.

This is important because users may have certain clients reaching them via a smartphone, while other colleagues may be linked through a softphone connected to the workstation.

Therefore, having multipoint connectivity would enable seamlessly switch between a smartphone and softphone whenever a call comes in, making multi-tasking much simpler than before.

Awesome Battery Life

With a battery life of up to 19 hours with ANC Off and 16 hours with ANC on, the Poly Voyager Focus 2 is able to offer around 2 days’ worth of usage with a single charge (considering that you wear the earphone for approximately 8 hours each day).

Even if the battery ran low, it’s good to know that the Poly Voyager Focus 2 can be recharged pretty quickly via it’s Micro USB port. During my testing, it took just slightly more than two hours to recharge the headphone from 0% to 100%.

Speaking of charging, there’s also a model that comes with a charging stand which besides charging the headphone, also helps to declutter your desk space and makes it looks more professional.

Verdict

The Poly Voyager Focus 2 might not be the most affordable headphone in the market. However, we can’t deny that the headphone has everything it takes to command a slightly higher asking price, such as it’s comfort-based design, superior noise-cancellation and sound quality.

These are standout features that set the Voyager Focus 2 apart from other competing models, and are also premiums that are worth for business/ enterprise users to invest on for better productivity in day-to-day operations.
