Redmi 8 & Redmi 8A made their Official Debut in China

As scheduled, Redmi has officially announced their latest iteration of entry-level smartphones in the Chinese market today. These devices are none other than the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A, which are arriving at a sub-$100 price point for the entry models.

Redmi 8 Specifications

For starter, the Redmi 8 comes with the latest Aura Wave Glass design, which was first popularize by the Redmi K20. The device features a 6.22-inch HD+ display that has a water drop notch which houses an 8 megapixels selfie camera.

Under the hood, the Redmi 8 is driven by a Snapdragon 439 SoC and is paired with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. Furthermore, there will also be a dedicated microSD slot for those who’re running out of storage space.

Moving on to it’s camera, the device comes equipped with a dual-camera setup on the back panel, comprising of a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor and a 2 megapixels depth sensor. Below the camera housing, there can also find a fingerprint sensor as well.

Here comes the key selling point of the device. The Redmi 8 will pack a mammoth 5,000mAh battery which supports 18W fast-charging. Honestly, there isn’t many sub-$100 devices out there with such hefty battery capacity.

Redmi 8A Specifications

As it’s name suggests, the Redmi 8A is the watered-down version of the Redmi 8. However, there are only some minor differences between the two devices.

First and foremost, unlike Redmi 8, the Redmi 8A has opted for an Aura Wave Grip design instead. On the back panel, the Redmi 8A only has a single camera setup comprising of a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor. Likewise, there is also an absent of rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for the Redmi 8A as well.

That’s pretty much the only differences which set the two devices apart.

Redmi 8 & Redmi 8A Pricing

The Redmi 8 is available in two memory configurations including 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB. These two models will go on sale at a price of 799 Yuan (US$113) and 899 Yuan (US$127) respectively.

The Redmi 8A on the other hand, will be available in 3GB+32GB and 4GB+32GB memory configurations which are priced at 699 Yuan (US$99) and 799 Yuan (US$113) respectively.
