Redmi and Realme Likely to Launch Snapdragon 855 Plus Smartphones

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 855 Plus mobile platform. The new chipset is an improved version of the SD855 SoC that powers most of the Android flagship phones that have gone official in the first half of the year. ASUS has already confirmed that its ROG Phone II smartphone that is launching on July 23 will be the company’s first phone to feature Snapdragon 855+ chipset. Soon after the introduction of SD855+ SoC, Realme and Redmi General Manager have added Weibo posts that suggests that they will soon launch SD855+ smartphones.

Redmi has already launched entry-level to flagship phones in the first half of the year. Hence, it may launch some new phones in the remaining half of the year. Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing below shown Weibo post that the company may release Snapdragon 855+ driven Redmi phone in the latter half of the year. Weibing has already hinted that the successor of the Redmi K20 series will have IR blaster, linear motor and dual speakers.

The above image is Realme’s Weibo post which also welcomes the new chipset. If Realme has no plans to launch a SD855+ phone, it wouldn’t have added the SD855+ related post. Realme has turned out to be a worthy rival for Redmi in India and its now gearing up take on the Xiaomi sub-brand in the home market. Hopefully, leaks appearing later this year may reveal more information on the Redmi and Realme Snapdragon 855+ smartphones.
