Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Review: Excellent Mid-Ranger That Offers Great Value For Money

Xiaomi had launched many great phones under it’s Redmi sub-brand that are known for offering excellent value for money. One such device is the new Redmi Note 13 Pro+ that was recently announced in the local market. Featuring a whopping 200MP triple-camera setup along with a class-leading Mediatek Dimensity 7200 Ultra chipset, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ certainly looks formidable on paper. However, does it have what it takes to be your next daily driver? Let’s find out in our Redmi Note 13 Pro+ review!

The Best Note Series Design Yet

Redmi Note series’ design had evolved tremendously to what we now have on the new Redmi Note 13 Pro+ which features a super sleek and stylish exterior that sets off a premium vibe despite it’s affordability.

One of the key changes from last year’s design lies in the newly revamped camera island which adopts a dual-ring design which not only looks neater, but also feels less wobbly on the table. Other than that, the Note 13 Pro+ also features a fresh dual-tone paintjob consisting of a darker tone color around the camera section followed by a lighter tone color for the rest of the phone.

The model that I’m holding on comes in a classy Midnight Black colorway that gives the phone a slightly more understated outlook as compared to the more attention-grabbing Aurora Purple and Ocean Teal colorways that are also available in the local market.

Like any other Redmi smartphones, the new Note 13 Pro+ is a phone that’s built with durability in mind. It comes with strengthened frame corners as well as multiple shock-absorbing layer to protect the phone against accidental drops. Also, it’s one of the few smartphones within it’s price range to feature IP 68-rating for dust and water resistance.

Class-leading Smartphone Display

Over on the front side, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ greets us with a spacious 6.67” curved display that offers plenty of screen estate for work and play. In case you might not know, the Note 13 Pro+ is actually the first Redmi Note series smartphone to sport a curved display – a feature that was previously exclusive to the higher-end models.

Speaking of the display, it’s based on a high-end AMOLED panel that boasts an ultra-sharp 2712 x 1220 pixels screen resolution along with a slick 120Hz refresh rate that promises super smooth visuals when playing your favorite game titles. To sweeten up the deal, the screen itself also brings along other high-end display features such as HDR10 and Dolby Vision support that takes your viewing experience to an even greater height.

In order to ensure the screen remain visible even under harsh sunlight, the front display also features an impressive peak brightness that goes up to 1,800 nits under auto brightness mode. This is in fact an important but often overlooked feature which is crucial for those who love to do outdoor photography.

Last but not the least, the front display is also reinforced by an additional layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to protect the screen against accidental drops or scratches.

Amazing Performance For Work & Play

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra chipset which never fails to deliver a smooth, lag-free user experience regardless whether I was multi-tasking or editing my next Instagram reel.

In fact, the phone also performs amicably well when working on more resource-intensive tasks like mobile gaming which the phone didn’t show any sign of choppiness even on fast-paced titles such as PUBG Mobile. Speaking of this, the phone also features an advanced cooling system that promises unrivalled heat dissipation during prolonged gaming sessions to eliminate the risk of thermal throttling which would otherwise lead to an unstable frame rate.

Memory-wise, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is offered in two variants such 8GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB. Unless you’re one of those who tend to download plenty of apps and games on the phone, the 8GB+256GB base model should suffice since cloud storage is now readily accessible at your fingertip.

Ideal Photography Companion

Moving on to the main highlight of the Redmi Note 13 Pro+: it’s versatile triple-camera system lead by a whopping 200 megapixels main camera that features a relatively large 1/1.4” sensor size and a bright f/1.65 aperture for better low-light performance.

Regardless whether you’re shooting in a bright or dimly-lit environment, the main camera is able to capture amazing photos with excellent dynamic range and details. However, what really sets the main camera apart from other smartphones in the segment is the presence of OIS and EIS dual-stabilization which makes it really easy for me to capture sharp and clear-looking photos even when there’s some movement.

Likewise, it’s also worth heaping praise on it’s quick and accurate autofocusing system which leverages an advanced Super QPD Auto-Focus Technology to enhance the camera’s AF capability especially in low-light environment.

While the phone doesn’t comes with a dedicated telephoto camera, it’s still able to offer 2x/ 4x loss-less zoom via in-sensor zooming that delivers clear and crisp photos that are comparable to those taken by an actual telephoto unit. In fact, this is a great feature for taking close-up photography of plants and insects as it’s generally more usable and reliable than the macro camera itself.

Those who love taking landscape photography would be glad to know that it’s 8MP ultra-wide camera is also able to capture pretty good-looking photos with acceptably good dynamic range and details regardless of lighting conditions.

Exceptional Battery Life

To keep it’s light on, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is backed by a respectable 5,000mAh battery that last for around 1.5 days under moderate usage. This include one to two hours of gaming during my daily commuting with refresh rate set to default.

The main highlight here actually lies in it’s 120W HyperCharge support (Xiaomi’s proprietary fast-charging solution) that’s capable of recharging a completely flat battery from 0 to 100% in merely 19 minutes. That’s even faster than majority of the flagship phones that cost more than twice it’s price.

Verdict

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is an excellent mid-ranger that offers great value for money. Despite it’s affordability, the phone puts forward plenty of premium features including a flagship-grade 200MP main camera and a powerful chipset that put the phone in the forefront of this highly competitive segment.

In Singapore, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is priced at S$529 and S$569 for the 8GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB variants, respectively. It’ll be available for purchase via Authorized Xiaomi Stores, as well as official e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and Lazada.
