Redmi Watch Bags SRRC Certification in China

In April, Redmi announced the budget-friendly Redmi Band fitness tracker. Since then, the rumor mill has been speculating that the company will be also launching its first smartwatch in the near future. The official name of the brand’s first smartwatch is not known yet. However, it is speculated to break cover as Redmi Watch. A Chinese tipster has revealed today that the Redmi Watch has received approval from the State Radio Regulation Certification (SRRC) regulatory in China. Hence, it appears that the Redmi Watch may go official soon.

The Redmi Watch that has “REDMIWT01” model number has been approved by SRRC. The tipster who shared a screengrab of the certification claimed that the smartwatch will break cover at some point in October. He added that the smartwatch will offer a great battery life.

The Redmi Watch was teased by Redmi GM Lu Weibing in November 2019. After the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Watch, Weibing had asked whether fans are looking forward to the Redmi Watch. At present, there is no word on the specifications of the Redmi Watch. The smartwatch was also approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in the recent past. Hence, the Redmi Watch is also expected to arrive in India after debuting in China.

Redmi is also reportedly working on a couple of other Redmi phones such as the Redmi Note 10 series and the Redmi K30T series, which appears to a rebranded version of the Xiaomi Mi 10T phones debuting globally on Sept. 30. Probably, the event that will be used to announce the Redmi Watch will also see the arrival of new Redmi phones.

The Xiaomi Mi Watch had debuted with 1,299 Yuan ($120) pricing in November 2019. In June, the company unveiled the Mi Watch Color with 799 Yuan ($73) pricing. The Redmi Watch will be rivaling with the Realme Watch, which is priced at Rs 3,999 ($369) in India. Hence, the Redmi Watch could be priced around $350 in the home market.
