Last year, Samsung had showed off its foldable smartphone to investors behind closed doors at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 event. A South Korean publication has revealed that at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018, Samsung had display an upgraded version of the foldable phone that it had shown at MWC 2017. Moreover, the company has revealed two kinds of foldable smartphones that respectively sport fold-in and fold-out designs.
Out of the two designs, Samsung will reportedly begin the production of the fold-in type of its foldable smartphone from November this year. It has finished the development of the product and is currently working on building up hype around the launch of the phone. It is speculated that the smartphone would be unveiled to the world by the end of this year or early 2019. The fold-in design has a curvature of 1R and it includes a 7.3-inch screen whereas the one with fold-out design has a curvature of 5R. Speculations are rife that these foldable phones will not be featuring glass display panels but may house plastic OLED panels.
At the private meeting, Samsung had invited different kinds of clients that could provide them information on the market reception of its first foldable phone. Apple is also speculated to be working on a foldable iPhone and the South Korean company is rumored to be supplying it with foldable display for it.
