Recent reports have revealed that Huawei is gearing up to launch a new clamshell phone with a foldable display in China. Today, the company released an official confirmation through its Weibo handle that it will announce the Huawei Pocket S at 7 PM on Nov. 2.
In December 2021, Huawei announced the Huawei P50 Pocket as its first-ever flip phone with a foldable screen. It debuted with flagship specifications such as a 6.9-inch foldable OLED display, Snapdragon 888, and 40MP dual cameras. The Huawei Pocket S appears to be the new flip phone, which was spotted at the TENAA certification site in August.
The official teaser of the Huawei Pocket S suggests that it will be made available in multiple colors, such as black, blue, pink, white, green, and yellow. Reports have claimed that the Pocket S may arrive in two CPU variants. It appears that the model that surfaced in TENAA’s database is powered by the Snapdragon 888 4G. The P50 Pocket S seems to have a Snapdragon 778G 4G variant, which hasn’t appeared on Chinese certification platforms.
The Snapdragon 888 4G variant of the P50 Pocket S is expected to arrive with an OLED panel that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, Huawei’s in-house XMAGE image processing technology, and HarmonyOS 3. The device may not feature a secondary rear-facing display. It is speculated to arrive in 256 GB and 512 GB storage choices, which are likely to be priced at 4,999 Yuan ($689) and 6,999 Yuan ($965).
The Snapdragon 778G-powered P50 Pocket S may arrive as an affordable flip phone in the Chinese market. Going ahead, other Chinese brands may also launch affordable clamshell devices in the market.
