Sony Xperia 5 II debuts with smooth 120Hz refresh rate & Snapdragon 865

Sony has officially announced the company’s latest flagship offering – Xperia 5 II (aka Xperia 5 Mark 2) – which will be succeeding last year’s Xperia 5.

As expected, the new Xperia 5 II will be retaining its compact design with a vibrant 6.1-inches OLED panel which offers a FHD+ screen resolution along with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a responsive 240Hz touch sampling rate.

It’s front display, which also a tall 21:9 aspect ratio, will be protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla 6 atop. Other highlights of its front display also include its support for X1 Bravia mobile HDR technology and the renowned Creator Mode.

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia 5 II is helmed by a 5G-ready Snapdragon 865 chipset coupled with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. As usual, it will be able to support microSD card for memory expansion as well.

In the camera department, you can find three powerful cameras sitting at the back. These cameras include a 12 megapixels (f/1.7 aperture) primary shooter with OIS, 12 megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) ultra-wide lens with Dual Pixel autofocus, as well as a 12 megapixels telephoto lens which is capable of offering up to 3x optical zoom. This time round, the Xperia 5 II also supports HDR for shooting 4K videos at 120 fps.

To sweeten the deal, all three cameras are furnished with ZEISS lenses that come with T* anti-reflective coating. For selfies, there will be an 8 megapixels camera at the front.

For an all-rounded entertainment, the Xperia 5 II offers a front-firing stereo speakers that comes with Dolby Atmos for an immersive audio experience.

As usual, the Xperia 5 II is also has IP68/IPX5 certification for dust and water resistance. On top of that, it also features a 3.5mm headphone jack and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

To keep its light on, the device draws power from a 4,000mAh battery with up to 21W fast-charging support. However, its worth noting that the USB Power Delivery charger you receive in the box will be capped at 18W charging rate. That being said, the charger is still capable of bringing the device from 0 to 50% within just 30 minutes.

Finally, the Xperia 5 II will be available in three different colorways including Black, Blue and Gray. For those who’re interested, the device will come with starting price of US$949 (S$1,290).
