After making it’s official launch earlier this week, the much anticipated Xiaomi 12 series smartphones finally went on it’s debut sale in it’s domestic market where the new models were met with high demand, with the company racking up more than 1.8 billion Yuan in sale within 5 minutes into it’s debut sale. This equates to around 333,000 to 562,000 being sold during short period of time.
The new Xiaomi 12 series smartphones come in three different models including the more affordable Xiaomi 12X, Xiaomi 12, as well as the top-of-the-line Xiaomi 12 Pro. These devices are priced starting at 3,199 Yuan (US$502), 3,699 Yuan (US$580) and 4,699 Yuan (US$738) respectively.
What’s interesting this time round however, is that the company had launched it’s flagship models in two different sizes, just like what we saw on Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro (Review) and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
In Xiaomi’s case, the vanilla Xiaomi 12 has opted for a more compact form factor with a petite 6.28” display, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro retains a large 6.73” display. This will favor those who prefer a smaller flagship phone although it remains to be seen whether it’ll eventually be popular among the consumers.
If everything goes as planned, the Xiaomi 12 series smartphones could debut during the first-quarter of the year in the global market, and will take on other upcoming flagship models such as the Huawei P50 Pro and the Realme GT 2 series.
