Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 series unveiled: The wait is worthy!

Besides launching the highly-anticipated Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 flagship, the Chinese tech giant has also unveiled the company’s first tablet series in three years – Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 series.

Just as what earlier reports have claimed, a total of two models were introduced including the vanilla Mi Pad 5 as well as a higher-end Mi Pad 5 Pro. While the Mi Pad 5 Pro is available in both Wi-Fi only and 5G variants, the vanilla model gets only a single 5G model.

Starting with the front, both the Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro comes along with an 11” LCD display that offers a FHD+ screen resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color depth, HDR10 support, as well as a peak brightness of 500 nits.

In the imaging front, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro 5G sports a powerful dual-cam setup at the back comprising of a 50MP main camera and a 5 MP ultra-wide lens. That’s definitely a pretty powerful setup for a tablet of it’s price.

As for the Wi-Fi only Mi Pad 5 Pro, it also gets a dual-cam setup, but the 50 MP shooter is now downgraded to a 13 MP instead, though it retains the same 5MP ultra-wide unit. Finally, there’s also the Mi Pad 5 5G which comes with a single 13MP shooter at the back.

Under the hood, both the Wi-Fi only and 5G variants of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro are powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 870 chipset. The vanilla Mi Pad 5 5G on the other hand, receives a slightly toned-down Snapdragon 860 chip instead.

To keep the lights on, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro is fitted with a massive 8,600mAh battery that carries support for a blazing-fast 67W wired charging. As for the Mi Pad 5, it gets a slightly larger 8,720mAh battery at the expensive of a slower 33W charging speed.

In the Chinese market, the vanilla Mi Pad 5 5G commands a starting price of 1,999 Yuan (US$308), while the Wi-Fi only and 5G variants of the Mi Pad 5 Pro are priced starting from 2,499 Yuan (US$385) and 3,499 Yuan (US$539) respectively.
