Xiaomi Tops The Indian Market For The Third Consecutive Quarter

There is currently a huge competition in the smartphone industry and many OEMs are battling for supremacy. The likes of Apple, Samsung and Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO, and vivo are amongst the fiercest rivals. Some days ago, there were reports that Xiaomi is currently fourth in the Chinese smartphone market while it is second in the Indonesian market.

Now, according to IDC’s latest statistical report, Xiaomi is currently top of the Indian smartphone market. This is the third consecutive quarter that the company is holding the top spot in India since it toppled Samsung last year. The reports show that Xiaomi’s market share in India (the world’s second-largest smartphone market) exceeded 30%. Samsung came second with 25.1% while OPPO, vivo, and Transsion racked up 7.4%, 6.7%, and 4.6% respectively. The other brands in the market collectively accounted for 25.9%. Xiaomi’s success is not just limited to India, China, and Indonesia as already stated. Even in Europe, the company is doing quite well. Xiaomi Mobile shipped about 2.4 million units in Q1 2018, which represents an increase of over 999%, and its market skyrocketed to 5.3%.

We expect that the fortunes of Xiaomi are about to get better because the recently speculated Xiaomi Mi 8 is sounding really interesting. The Mi 8 will not only be the first Android phone to use an iPhone X-like facial recognition feature (ie it will use a 3D structured light technology), it will also be the first Xiaomi phone to come with an on-screen fingerprint sensor. It will be interesting to try out these features but let’s not forget that this smartphone comes with a notch – a feature that is not so popular amongst Android fans.
