Apple will be using OLED panels from Samsung on the rumored iPhone 8. Fresher information suggests that the South Korean company will be also providing millions of OLED panel to Xiaomi for its 2018 flagship smartphones.
It seems that the deal between Samsung and Xiaomi for OLED panels developed after a failed cooperation between Xiaomi and LG Display. Reports suggest that the deal between LG Display and Xiaomi failed because of the delay in building a new factory. Samsung Display manufactures 6-inch OLED screens whereas LG Display builds 5.5-inch OLED panels. Hence, it seems that the 2018 flagship from Xiaomi would be equipped with a 6-inch OLED screen.
The shipments of the Samsung’s OLED panels are expected to begin in December this year. At the beginning, Samsung will be providing 1 million OLED panels to Xiaomi. By January 2018, Samsung will be shipping 2.2 million OLED screens.
Speculations are rife that the Xiaomi Mi 7 flagship that will release in 2018 is codenamed as Chiron. It may feature the 6-inch OLED screen from Samsung. There are other rumors that claim that the Mi 7 may feature a screen from Japan Display. Hence, rumors are also hinting that Samsung’s OLED panels will be used on Mi Mix 3 or Mi Note 4 or a Redmi series phone in 2018.
