OPPO patented a new foldable smartphone design

Earlier today, we have been treated to a series of patent images of the possible upcoming OPPO’s foldable smartphone which seems to share some resemblance to the ZTE Axon M which was announced last year.

As seen from the official patent drawings above, the Chinese company had outlined four different possible designs for its upcoming foldable smartphone with differences boiling down to its alignment of the camera module as well as the number of sensors for its main snapper. From what we’d seen, the OPPO foldable smartphone will not have any noticeable hinge at the center when the screens are fully extended due to the fact that the device make full use of a single flexible display instead of two – which is the case of the Axon M.

Sad to say, these rough sketches doesn’t reveal much on the actual design of the handset which will definitely looks better and more intricate than those above.

If you can still remember, last year OPPO had also patented another foldable smartphone design which allows the device to be bended at its top quarter. For the benefits of those who’d missed out, the above is the patented design we’d seen from the company last year.

With Vivo gearing up to innovate their smartphones with new technologies like the recent underscreen fingerprint sensor, OPPO will definitely needs to work harder on their R&D side to showcase their technology prowess in order to maintain their growing market share in the Chinese market. For now, let’s look forward to see a working prototype of the company’s new foldable smartphone and if we’re lucky enough perhaps it could even be demonstrated at the upcoming’s MWC 2018 in Barcelona.
