Huawei’s global smartphone shipments had grew by approximately 34 million in comparison to the 206 million smartphones shipped in 2018.

Part of the staggering growth in smartphone shipments last year was attributed to the phenomenal sales of the company’s “P” and “Mate” series smartphones.

According to Huawei, shipments of “P” and “Mate” series smartphones had seen an impressive 50% year-on-year growth.

Due to the ongoing US trade ban, Huawei’s smartphone sales in the global market has plummeted in recent months.

However, their overall smartphone sales continue to expand due to it’s strong domestic demand spurred by “patriotic buying”.

The lack of licensed Google services is one of the contributing factors which resulted in their murky smartphone sales in the global market.

To solve this issue, Huawei is developing their in-house Google replacement apps to reduce their reliance on Google. Some of these apps are already available by end of last year.

Previously, Huawei’s founder Ren Zhangfei had revealed that he remains confident that the firm can still become No. 1 smartphone brand even without Google.
