Huawei’s CEO for Consumer Business Group Richard Yu had previously revealed during an official interview with Frandroid that the company will announce an upgraded Huawei Mate X during the upcoming MWC 2020.
This device, expected to be known as the Mate Xs, had already been certified by the Chinese 3C authority which revealed that the device will be arriving with a blazing-fast 65W charging capability.
Now, a new report out of China has claimed that the upcoming Mate Xs may in fact be cheaper than the current Mate X foldable phone.
The reason is simply because the Mate Xs’ display panel is expected to cost lesser than that of the current Mate X. Therefore, Huawei will be able to pass on the “savings” from their lowered production costs to the consumers.
Currently, the Huawei Mate X carries a hefty price tag of 16,999 yuan (US$2,403) in the Chinese market. Besides it’s astronomical price, the repair costs of the device is also considerably higher compared to other high-end devices.
For instance, the screen replacement for the Mate X alone will set you back with 7,080 Yuan (US$1,006) – an amount which could get you a brand new Mate 30 Pro or even a Galaxy Note 10.
Keeping in mind that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold Z is expected to be priced below US$1000, it will be wise for Huawei to tag the Mate Xs with a more palatable price as well.
