In August 2019, Huami had confirmed that it began working on the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 fitness tracker. A recent Weibo post from the company suggests that the arrival of the Mi Band 5 is close at hand. The post states that there will be a live broadcast event on April 3 at 2 PM (local time) in China. Probably, the company will be announcing the Mi Band 5.
According to the IDC Global Wearable Smart Device Market Report for the 2014-2019 period, the total global shipments of the wearable devices from Xiaomi has exceed 100 million mark. The same post talks about the arrival of the new wearables on April 3. While it is being speculated that the Mi Band 5 may go official on the coming Friday, the Chinese firm may announce some other wearable device.
There is no fresh information on the specifications of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5. The NFC variants of the Mi Band models that have launched in the past have been only available for purchase in China. It is speculated that the Mi Band 5’s global version will also carry support for NFC connectivity.
A recent leak had revealed that the Mi Band 5 will be arriving with a 1.2-inch AMOLED color display. It will be bigger than the 0.95-inch screen on the Mi Band 4. It is expected to arrive with support for payments through Google Pay and Mi Pay.
The Mi Band 5 could be priced at 179 Yuan ($25) in China. The home market could be the first region to receive the Mi Band 5. Later on, it will also arrive in global markets.
