In December 2019, Redmi announced the Redmi K30 4G and Redmi K30 5G smartphones. The company later unleashed the Redmi K30 Pro 5G in Q1 2020. Hence, the company is speculated to announce the Redmi K40 series in Q1 this year. Today, Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing took to Weibo to reveal that the Redmi K40 series will break cover in February. He also revealed the pricing of the K40 series along with some of its key features.
Weibing’s Weibo post suggests that the flagship model in the Redmi K40 series will be the most cost-effective Snapdragon 888 SoC powered handset. Probably, this device will be arriving in the market as the Redmi K40 Pro.
He also revealed that the Redmi K40 series could probably be equipped with the most expensive flat screen and has battery capacity that exceeds 4,000mAh. He also went on to confirm that the K40 series lineup will carry a starting price of 2999 Yuan ($462).
Although the Pro model is expected to arrive with an SD888 chip onboard, it is unclear which SoC will be fueling the K40. MediaTek confirmed earlier today that it will be announcing the new Dimensity series of chipsets on Jan. 20. One of the SoCs that the company is expected to unveil is the 6nm Dimensity 2000. It remains to be seen whether the K40 comes with the Dimensity 2000 chipset or any other SoC.
