OnePlus 12R to feature 2MP macro camera instead of rumored telephoto camera

OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 12R will be announced for the global audience along with the OnePlus 12 on Jan. 23. As per reports, the device will be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 3, which is expected to launch soon in the Chinese market. Initial reports claimed that the 12R / Ace 3 would come equipped with a telephoto camera. It is now believed that a macro camera has taken its place.

According to tipster Max Jambor, the camera setup of the OnePlus 12R will feature a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

He added that the camera setup also includes a 2-megapixel macro camera. It will be a replacement for the 32-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, which was seen on the early prototype of the device.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 12R will have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, LPPDDR5x RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage. It is expected to house a 5,500mAh battery with 100W wired charging. The device will lack support for wireless charging.

As mentioned above, the device will be called the OnePlus Ace 3 in the Chinese market. The 12R will be released in India as well as in global markets. The device will likely be priced at around Rs 35,000 ($420) in the Indian market.
