Huawei saw a 66% YOY increase in China’s smartphone shipments

Despite having a tough time due to the ongoing US trade ban, Huawei remains unfettered with more than 200 million smartphones shipped globally thus far.

Now, according to market research firm Canalys, Huawei had recorded a 66% year-on-year growth in the local smartphone market, as the company’s smartphone shipment grew from 25 million (Q3, 2018) to a staggering 41.5 million (Q3, 2019).

Courtesy of the expansion in Chinese smartphone shipments, Huawei had also extended it’s smartphone market share in China from 24.9% (Q3, 2018) to 42.4% (Q3, 2019).

Even though the Chinese smartphone market had shrunk by 3% as compared to the same period last year, Huawei is still able to maintain its top-line growth which came at the expense of other smartphone makers including OPPO and Vivo.

Huawei’s record-breaking smartphone shipments in the Chinese market has helped to cushion the plummeting smartphone shipments in the global market as a result of the US trade ban against the firm.

Earlier this year, renowned analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities estimated that Huawei may capture as much as 45% to 50% market share in China in 2020. From what we saw so far, Huawei isn’t far away from reaching this estimated market share.
