Huawei’s upcoming Kirin 1020 SoC could boast 50% better performance

Previously, renowned leaker @RODENT950 had published some information pertaining to the upcoming Kirin 1020 SoC (codenamed Baltimore).

The new flagship processor will be the successor to the current Kirin 990 the following year. It is said to boast a 50% increase in raw speed gain over the Kirin 990, and will be manufactured via a 5nm manufacturing process.

Now, a new report (via GSMArena) has revealed that the Kirin 1020 will be utilizing the upcoming Cortex-A78 cores and will be skipping the Cortex-A77 cores altogether.

For those who do not know, the Cortex-A77 cores are currently utilize by other flagship processors including the newly announced Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 and Mediatek’s Dimensity 1000 SoC.

The combination of 5nm manufacturing process and the utilization of Cortex-A78 cores are the contributing factors for Kirin 1020’s performance boost.

However, we are still pretty far away from it’s official announcement and we probably wouldn’t see it on the upcoming Huawei P40 flagships.
