Huawei Mate 20 Pro Coming with Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor, 3D Facial Recognition

Unlike Xiaomi, Huawei has very few phones running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC. Fresh information coming from China reveals that a new agreement between Huawei and Qualcomm will make it possible for the upcoming Mate 20 Pro smartphones to feature ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The ultrasonic fingerprint reader is more accurate and reliable than the optical fingerprint sensor found on recent flagship phones such as Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design, Vivo NEX and Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition. The report also states that Mate 20 series will be equipped with 3D facial recognition feature.

The report reveals that the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 Pro will be blessed with second-generation ultrasonic fingerprint scanning technology by Qualcomm. The advantage of this technology is that the sensor can be embedded under thicker glass. The existing under-display fingerprint module can be placed under 300micron thick glass. However, the second-generation ultrasonic fingerprint module by Qualcomm can be fitted under up to 800micron thick glass. Users will be able to unlock the phone accurately even with wet hands.

The report has further stated that Huawei is likely to monopolize Qualcomm’s second generation ultrasonic fingerprint scanning technology until February 2019. So, handsets featuring the same technology by other smartphones manufacturers may arrive in the market by the end of first half of 2019.

As far as Mate 20 is concerned, it may feature conventional in-screen fingerprint scanner. Since Mate 20 series also expected to feature 3D facial recognition, they are expected to hit the market with costlier pricing.
