Huawei MatePad T10s: The Best Budget Tablet In The Market?

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, most companies are now leaning towards a work from home culture to minimise the risk of transmission at work place or when taking public transport.

While majority are fond of the idea of working from home, but some may occasionally look for a change in environment to focus better since sitting on the same work desk for hours everyday will eventually gets mundane.

That’s probably the reason why neighbourhood cafes are always crowded during the weekdays since they are attractive destinations to work in, and provide an opportunity for a short getaway from your home desk.

However, if you happen to own a bulky laptop, the idea of carrying your laptop outside your house might be a huge turn off. Furthermore, buying a portable laptop just for this period of time isn’t worth as well.

That’s when a tablet comes in to fill the gap. Not only is a tablet capable of facilitating most of your productivity needs, it also serves as an entertainment centre for your gaming and video-streaming needs.

So if you’re in the market for an affordable tablet, the Huawei MatePad T10s (priced at just S$298) is definitely one of the best option in this segment which you wouldn’t want to miss out. Here are some of the key highlights and features which we love most on the Huawei MatePad T10s after spending two weeks with this exciting device!

Sleek & Portable Design

On the outside, the Huawei MatePad T10s doesn’t shows any sign of a budget tablet at all. It flaunts a smooth, polished back panel which did a fine job in cracking down those unsightly fingerprint and smudges. Its Deepsea Blue paintjob looks understated while at the same time, classy.

Measuring 240.2mm by 159mm, the MatePad T10s is a pretty huge tablet but do have a reasonable thickness of just 7.85mm and weighs around 450 grams. Despite its sheer size, the tablet is nice and easy to hold in both portrait and landscape orientations thanks to its amicable aspect ratio.

Most importantly, the tablet is highly portable. You can easily slot in the MatePad T10s into any medium size backpack and bring it whenever you go. Its weight is hardly felt even after carrying it for a couple of hours.

Immersive Display & Audio Experience

Upfront, the Huawei MatePad T10s sports a decent looking design with some bezels enclosing its 10.1” IPS LCD display. However, its front display is surprisingly great for its price point.

It offers a sharp 1920 x 1200 pixels screen resolution which offers sufficient brightness to ensure the display remains visible under most circumstances. To sweeten the deal, the display is further enhanced by the ClariVu visual technology which helps to make colors appear more vivid and contrasting.

The extra screen real estate that the MatePad T10s offers is also much appreciated as it allows you to take better advantage of all multi-tasking features in EMUI 10.1 like the multi-windows feature. While such features admittedly work well in smartphones, but some users might be slightly uncomfortable with the smaller font and the need to do more scrolling.

Editors’ Pick

That’s something you wouldn’t encounter on a 10.1” tablet since it has ample of space for two simultaneous windows. So even in a minimized window, its still able to put up more contents (less scrolling) with larger font size that doesn’t strain your eyes.

Huawei MatePad T10s Gaming Portrait

Productivity aside, gaming on a large screen tablet proves to be a real enjoyment too. Whether you’re gaming in landscape or portrait mode, its certainly more immersive and comfortable for the eyes as compared to gaming on a 6 to 7” smartphone. The same can be said for video streaming as well.

The Huawei MatePad T10s also has speaker along the two short sides of the tablet. What’s notable is that both speakers are tuned by audiophile specialists Harman Kardon which deliver fantastic audio quality that’s a punch above its own weight.

Snappy Performance

Under the hood, the Huawei MatePad T10s is powered by an all-scenario Kirin 710A chipset which is more than good enough for moderate users. As such, you will hardly encounter any stuttering while working on your Excel document and at the same time replying to emails in Multi-windows mode.

Huawei MatePad T10s Gaming Landscape

Even for gaming, you’ll hardly be bothered by any lag in most of the popular game titles including Brawl Stars and Marvel Super War. Other more resource intensive PvP games like PUBG Mobile also runs well on the tablet as long as you keep it under the balanced graphical settings.

In the local market, the Huawei MatePad T10s is available in a single 3GB RAM/ 64GB Storage configuration which is pretty decent. Most importantly, its storage capacity can be further expanded by up to 512GB via a microSD card.

Nifty Cameras

For a budget-centric tablet, we shouldn’t really hold high expectations for its camera system since after all, cameras aren’t exactly what people are looking for in such tablet.

However, its single 5 megapixels camera at the back can come in handy when you need to take a quick snap of documents and send to your colleague. To be honest, you can also get a pretty flattering shot with some minor editing.

Huawei MatePad T10s Selfie Camera

Upfront, there’s also a 2 megapixels camera for selfie and video-calling purposes. Selfie-wise, its not exactly something you will want to post on social media, but it certainly serves it purpose for video-calling.

Superb Battery Life

On a moderate usage (with auto brightness), you can squeeze at least 10 hours worth of battery life out of its hefty 5,100mAh battery. That means it can support up to 1.5 days of usage on a single charge considering you spend around 6 to 7 hours on the tablet each day.

But if we’re talking about more resource intensive activities like gaming (with auto/ 50% brightness), then you can expect around 7 to 8 hours of usage which is probably more than enough unless you’re a really hardcore gamer.

As for charging, the Huawei MatePad T10s is supports a standard 10W charging which is capable of delivering a full charge under the two-hours mark.

AppGallery Is Now Better Than Ever

Huawei’s AppGallery has reached a stage where it could finally be seen as a befitting alternative for Play Store. So far, Huawei has did a great job in attracting developers to port apps over to AppGallery, especially those that are popular among the users. Therefore, chances are that you’re able to find most, if not all of your favorite apps in AppGallery.

Over the past couple of months, the growth of AppGallery has been phenomenal. In fact, AppGallery recently celebrated its 530 million users milestone and has more than 2.3 million registered developers globally. Its evergrowing userbase can certainly be seen as a testament to the platform’s reliability and usability for Huawei users.

Verdict

The Huawei MatePad T10s is a no-frills tablet which offers everything you need and nothing you don’t. At S$298, the Huawei MatePad T10s certainly brings more value than what we usually expect from this price point.

Unless you’re planning to work on resource intensive tasks like editing a 4K or 8K video on your tablet, a tablet like the Huawei MatePad T10s will suffice for most of us.

For those who’re interested, the Huawei MatePad T10s will be available at all Huawei Concept Stores, selected consumer electronic stores, as well as Huawei official online stores in Lazada and Shopee.
