Huawei Pay officially debuts in Singapore

Singapore is now officially the forth overseas market to roll out the Huawei Pay mobile payment tool. This service was first introduced in the Chinese market on August 2016, and had since made its way to Russia, Hong Kong and Pakistan.

According to the press release, the Huawei Pay launch is in collaboration exclusively with UnionPay by Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). The new mobile payment platform will be able to support contactless, cashless payment service for Huawei and Honor smartphone users.

Since Huawei Pay supports NFC payment mode, a transaction could easily be completed by tapping their Huawei or Honor smartphones near to the Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal. Therefore, it provides pretty much the same functionalities as Samsung Pay (on Galaxy smartphones) and Apple Pay (on iPhone).

As of now, ICBC is the first bank in Singapore that supports Huawei Pay. To mark this special occasion, Singapore users who register ICBC UnionPay credit cards to Huawei Pay will receive a welcome gift of 10 Huawei Points (worth S$10).

Similarly, ICBC UnionPay credit card users can also receive up to S$20 cashback by completing different tiers of payment transactions via Huawei Pay, between April 1st to September 30th.

For those who’re interested, the Huawei Pay service could be enabled by adding their bank cards to Huawei Wallet app. Although the app is preloaded on the newly announced Huawei P40 series, but older devices will have to download via Huawei AppGallery.

In related news, the Huawei P40 series is now available for purchase in Singapore.
