Huawei turns to Dailymotion for video contents amidst ongoing trade ban

The ongoing US trade ban has essentially cut off Huawei’s access to licensed Google services including Gmail, Google Map, and YouTube to name a few. As a result, Huawei has been working tirelessly for alternative apps and services, as well as developing the company’s proprietary Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) in order to reduce their reliance on Google.

After forging a partnership with Dutch’s firm TomTom for the use of their mapping and navigational services in future Huawei smartphones, the Chinese telecommunication giant has now partnered with Dailymotion to deliver video contents to its users.

This partnership was officially announced via a blog post on Dailymotion:

“Through this global partnership, Huawei Video has integrated Dailymotion’s video player technology in its application. The technology package includes a robust white-label video player, a large volume of international and local video content via Dailymotion’s API, as well as a strong monetization solution of the video inventory.”

In fact, the Huawei Video app is already available and comes pre-installed on new Huawei smartphones. This app currently provides a wide selection of movie titles on-demand as well as premium streaming services for its users. The integration with Dailymotion will further enrich the available video contents and serve as a one-stop entertainment service.
