Earlier this month, Huawei Singapore announced a new wearable in the local market known as the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant Edition that will take on the likes of other fitness tracker cum smartwatch hybrid in the market including the recently announced Realme Watch S Pro (Review).
Despite its brand new moniker, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant Edition is inherently a similar device as the Huawei Watch Fit, except it dons a more elegant and luxurious outlook as compared to the latter. As such, it will continue to offer the same set of features and functionalities as last year’s Watch Fit.
At S$168 (US$125), the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant Edition is among the most affordable smartwatch in the local market, and is certainly an attractive option for those on a tighter budget. However, does it have everything you’re looking for on a smartwatch? Let’s find out in our Huawei Watch Fit Elegant Edition review!
It’s Indeed Elegant!
On the outside, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant Edition is certainly one of the best-looking smartwatch in the market especially at this price point. It sports a tall rectangular dial enclosed within a polished, stainless steel watch frame that looks and feels way more premium than what a plastic frame could possibly offers.
Most importantly, it differentiates the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant apart from the rabble of smartwatches with circular dials, making it a great option for those who wishes to stand out of the crowd.
For the review unit I’d received, it dons a Golden color paint job for the watch frame, but its available in Silver colorway as well. Both variants however, gets the same Frosty White Fluoroelastomer Strap that goes well with either of the colors.
In fact, its wrist strap is actually made from the same material as the one on the more expensive Huawei Watch GT2 Pro (Review). Therefore, you’ll get to enjoy the same level of comfort and durability at halve the price.
Speaking of durability, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant is also rated with 5ATM water resistant. This makes it a great companion for your next swimming session or outdoor adventure whether it rain or shine.
Gorgeous Display & Smooth UI
Moving on, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant flaunts a 1.64” AMOLED touch display which curves gently toward its edges, boasting an impressive 70% screen-to-body ratio. It offers a 280 x 456 pixels screen resolution which brings sharp and punchy visuals to the screen.
Thanks to the presence of an ambient light sensor onboard, the display can automatically adjust its brightness level to ensure the screen remains visible at all instances. Similarly, it also offers sufficient peak brightness to keep the screen visible even under direct sunlight.
The Huawei Watch Fit Elegant do have an Always-on display option which is capped to a maximum of 20 minutes, just like the Huawei Band 6. As usual, its advisable to switch off this option to prolong battery life. If you happens to be one of those who checks time frequently, you might consider turning on the raise-to-wake option instead.
In terms of watch faces, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant is preloaded with a wide selection of watch faces out of the box. Despite that, the Huawei Health app spoils you with even more choices which you can easily download and sync over to the watch.
Similar to any other Huawei’s fitness tracker and smartwatches, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant boots on the company’s proprietary Lite OS that’s known for its lightweight nature which promises better battery life for its users.
Navigating through the Lite OS is a breeze. Swiping the screen leftward or rightward will bring up some of the commonly used features like heart rate and stress monitoring, daily steps count, weather forecast, as well as music player.
Similarly, swiping the screen downwards will reveal a set of quick settings including the “Do not disturb”, “Always-on display” and “Alarm”, while swiping the screen upwards fires up all the notifications you have from your phone.
Finally, there’s also a single button located along the right edge of the watch which allows you to launch the entire list of available apps and features on the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant. Likewise, it also doubles up as a “Back” button which brings you back to the Home screen.
Great Selection Of Health & Fitness Features
No doubt, you’ll be spoilt by the wide selection of health monitoring and workout modes on the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant.
In terms of health and fitness tracking, you get all the crucial ones including including SpO2, heart rate, sleep quality, menstrual cycle, stress level, daily steps count, active hours, as well as the amount of calories burned.
While the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant do offers an intuitive interface to keep track of these data, you can still sync them over to the Huawei Health app for a more detailed and thorough breakdown of the data.
For instance, syncing the sleep tracking data over to the Huawei Health app will provide you a detailed break down into various sleep cycles and even your breathing quality. On top of that, the Huawei Health app also appends an indicator for each category, and went beyond its call of duty by offering suggestions on how to improve them.
As for workout modes, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant brings along a total of 96 workout modes including 11 professional sport modes like outdoor run, indoor run, outdoor walk, indoor walk, outdoor cycle, indoor cycle, pool swim, open water swim, cross trainer, rower and free workout.
One notable feature which makes the Watch Fit Elegant an even more attractive fitness companion is the presence of an animated personal trainer to guide you though 12 different fitness courses which you can check out from our unboxing video above.
To ensure accurate mapping of your run routine, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant is equipped with a highly reliable and responsive GPS. These data recorded on the watch can be synced over to the Huawei Health App where it not only shows you the route covered, but also offers many other useful information like your heart rate reading as well as your pace during the entire run.
Long-lasting Battery Life
Huawei claims that the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant is able to support up to 10 days battery life under typical usage condition, 7 days under heavy usage, and 12 hours under the GPS mode.
That’s pretty accurate during my two weeks of usage as the Watch Fit Elegant lasted me slightly more than a week of usage on a single charge with an hour of GPS usage and automatic heart rate monitoring toggled on.
It charges through the usual magnetic charging thimble that’s capable of of charging its 180mAh battery from 0 to 100% in around an hour. Wireless charging however, is absent on the Watch Fit Elegant.
At just S$168, the Huawei Watch Fit Elegant is definitely punching above its weight. It comes with everything you need to kick start with your fitness regime, and all the necessary tracking features to ensure you’re in the best of health.
Most importantly, its sleek and classy outlook also turns it into a fashion accessory on top of all its functionality – something that isn’t all smartwatches are able to replicate.
