Yesterday, Qualcomm quietly announced a new chipset called the Snapdragon 870. As the moniker suggests, the new SoC is slotted between the more powerful Snapdragon 888 and the older Snapdragon 865 chipset. Soon after the launch, Motorola took to Weibo to confirm that it will be launching the Motorola Edge S on Jan. 26 in China as the world’s first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset.
Motorola is yet to reveal the specifications of the Motorola Edge S phone. However, rumors are rife that it could be the same device that has appeared in recent leaks with the “Nio” codename. The model number of the device is XT-2125. It is speculated that the Motorola Edge S could be made available as the company’s first G-series flagship in other markets.
As far as the Snapdragon 870 is concerned, it is an 7nm chipset that offers up to 3.2GHz clocking speeds. The SoC includes Adreno 650 graphics, which is also available with Snapdragon 865 chip.
Motorola Edge S Specifications (Unconfirmed)
The leaked images of the Motorola Nio that have surfaced in recent weeks have revealed that it will be sporting a dual punch-hole display design. The handset is rumored to house a 6.6-inch display that offers a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. It could be sporting a 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual selfie camera system. It seems to be equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The back panel of the phone is expected to feature a 64-megapixel + 16-megapixel (ultrawide) + 2-megapixel (depth) triple camera system. It may ship with 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. The phone could be running on Android 11 OS and it may draw power from a 5,000mAh battery. It is also expected to carry support for rapid charging.
