OnePlus announced the OnePlus Nord 5G mid-range smartphone in July last year. Fresh information reveals that the company is gearing up to launch a successor to the OnePlus Nord smartphone. According to Android Central, the OnePlus Nord 2 will be the company’s first phone without a Qualcomm chipset.
The publication revealed that the OnePlus Nord 2 will be featuring the Dimensity 1200 chipset by MediaTek. Announced in January, the D1200 is a 6nm chip with a Cortex-A78 core that can deliver clocking speeds of up to 3.0GHz. The SoC also includes Mali-G77 GPU. Brands like Xiaomi and Realme are also said to be working on D1200 powered handsets.
The publication did not share any other information on the specs of the OnePlus Nord 2. However, it claimed that it will be revealing rest of its hardware in the coming weeks. It further stated that the OnePlus Nord 2 will break cover in the second quarter of 2021.
In related news, recent reports have revealed that the Chinese manufacturer is also working on a new variant of the OnePlus Nord. Expected to arrive with OnePlus Nord SE moniker, it will be a special edition version of the Nord. A report by PhoneArena had revealed that the OnePlus Nord SE will be specially designed by popular graphic artist named Joshua Vides. Hence, it appears that the Nord SE may feature the exact same specs that are available on the original Nord smartphone.
OnePlus is likely to announce the OnePlus 9 series of smartphones later this month. The company is expected to confirm its launch date on March 8. The lineup may include three phones such as OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and an affordable model dubbed as OnePlus 9R or 9E. Rumors suggest that the company may announce the Nord SE and OnePlus Watch at the OnePlus 9 launch event.
