After launching the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition smartphone last month, Xiaomi is now back with another pair of K50 series smartphones known as the Redmi K50 and Redmi K50 Pro in it’s domestic market.
Just like it’s predecessors, the new Redmi K50 smartphones continue to impress with their high grade hardware despite being priced cheaper than it’s competitors.
Redmi K50 Pro
Starting with the higher-end model, the Redmi K50 Pro features a 6.7” AMOLED display that offers a sharp QHD+ screen resolution along with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
On top of that, the screen also supports an impressive peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits and is covered with an additional layer of Gorilla Victus to protect the screen against accidental drops or scratches.
Over on the rear side, the Redmi K50 Pro sports a redesigned camera module which houses a triple-cam setup lead by a 108 megapixels main camera which features OIS stabilization for smooth video recording.
This will be accompanied by an 8 megapixels ultra-wide camera and a 2 megapixels macro unit for close-up. As for selfie and video call, the phone also has a 20 megapixels front camera for this regard.
As we know, the Redmi K50 Pro is among the first batch of smartphones to be powered by the new MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset that’s capable of going toe-to-toe with Apple’s A15 Bionic chipset.
To supplement it’s already amazing performance, the phone is further equipped with an advance seven-layer vapor chamber cooling system to keep the phone’s temperature optimal in order to output consistent performance.
Likewise, the Redmi K50 Pro will also be helmed by a respectable 5,000mAh battery which is able to support up to 120W fast-charging that recharges the phone rapidly from 0 to 100% in a mere 19 minutes.
On the software side of things, the Redmi K50 Pro will boot on MIUI 13 based on Android 12 OS out of the box. Those who’re interested can pick the phone from four different colorways such as Black, green, silver and blue colors.
In the Chinese market, pricing for the Redmi K50 Pro starts from 2,999 Yuan (US$472) for it’s 8GB+128GB trim and goes up to 3,999 Yuan (US$630) for it’s top-of-the-line variant with 12GB+512GB memory configuration.
Redmi K50
Moving on to the more affordable Redmi K50 smartphone, this model comes with a completely similar front display as the Pro model including it’s screen size and specs. In fact, their similarities also extend to the 20 megapixels front-facing camera.
What really sets the two phones apart lies in it’s rear camera system whereby the vanilla model features a toned-down 48 megapixels main camera instead of a 108 megapixels snapper. It will however, retains the same 8 megapixels ultra-wide and 2 megapixels macro cameras.
Under the hood, the Redmi K50 is also powered by a slightly more modest MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset which nonetheless offers better performance than last year’s Snapdragon 870 silicon.
Although the Redmi K50 features a larger 5,500mAh battery, but it’s charging speed was cut down to just 67W. Despite that, it’s still way faster than most other smartphones in this segment.
In terms of pricing, the Redmi K50 is priced at 2,399 Yuan (US$378) and 2,799 (US$440) respectively for it’s 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB variants.
