Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi unveiled the Redmi K40 series of smartphones in February 2021. Reports have claimed that the company will announce the K50 lineup in Q1 this year. Today, the company released an official confirmation the K50 series will be announced in February.
Apart from confirming the February launch timeframe for the Redmi K50 series, the company also revealed some of its key features. The first set of K40 series of smartphones included three models such as Redmi K40, K40 Pro, and K40 Pro+. Hence, it is likely that the multiple K50 models may go official next month.
Redmi confirmed that the K50 lineup handset codenamed as ‘DreamPhone’ will feature the Snapdragon 8 series chipset. To those who are unaware, when MediaTek announced the Dimensity 9000 chipset last month, Redmi was one of the first brands to confirm that the K50 series will include the D9000 SoC. Hence, it appears that the next K-series phones will be powered by different chipsets.
Redmi confirmed that the K50 lineup will offer a large heat dissipation area with a dual VC liquid-cooling system. The K50 series will house a 4,700mAh battery, which will carry support for 120W fast charging. According to Redmi, the K50 will be able to charge completely in just 17 minutes.
A Redmi phone with model number 21121210C has been spotted at Chinese certification platforms such as 3C and TENAA recently. While the TENAA listing did not reveal any information on its specifications, the 3C listing of the device revealed that it may arrive with support for 120W fast charging. Tipster Digital Chat Station had recently claimed that this device will be debuting with the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition moniker in the Chinese market.
