Report: OPPO will no longer include charger for select products starting next year

It’s a matter of fact that most major smartphone makers such as Apple, Samsung and Google no include an in-box charger for some of their smartphone models (usually the more expensive ones). Now, it seems like OPPO will soon be joining the pack according to a recent comments made by Oppo’s VP of overseas sales and services, Billy Zhang, during the Reno 8 Series’ European launch event.

“We will take the charger out of the box in the next year for several products. We have a plan. It’s not that easy for consumers to get access to [SuperVOOC chargers], so we have to keep it in the box. However, as we are expanding our business operations, we are looking to taking chargers out of the box and put them in the store so that our users are able to buy the chargers and continue using them even when they upgrade their devices.”

As noted by Zhang, OPPO will no longer include an in-box changer for certain products starting next year. However, his words seem to suggest that these products are likely (but not confirmed) to exclude those that make use of SuperVOOC chargers as the company understood the difficulty for consumers to gain access to these chargers which aren’t readily available in the first and third-party channels, compared to the more common USB Power Delivery chargers.

For now, it remains to be seen which categories of product will the in-box charger be excluded since neither Zhang nor OPPO has dropped any hint on that. Needless to say, the exclusion of in-box charger might not go well with some OPPO fans but that’s how the current smartphone market is shaping.
