Snapdragon 875 to be Announced on December 1

Qualcomm has confirmed that it will be holding its next Tech Summit 2020 event on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2. While the U.S. based chip maker has not officially declared it, rumors are rife that it will be announcing the Snapdragon 875 mobile platform. It is expected to debut as the successor to the Snapdragon 865 SoC that debuted last year. All the major Android flagship phones arriving in 2021 are expected to come equipped with the SD875 SoC.

The Snapdragon 875 could be the first 5nm mobile chipset from Qualcomm. It is speculated that the company may also announce a new Snapdragon 7-series chipset at the Tech Summit 2020 event.

It goes without the saying that the Snapdragon 875 could be the most powerful chipset from the brand. Rumors have it that the SD875 chip which is codenamed as Lahania has a single Cortex-X1 core, three Cortex-A78 scores, and quad Cortex-A55 cores. The SoC is also expected to include Snapdragon X60 5G modem. Reports have claimed that the 5nm chipset will be manufactured by Samsung.

As far as the next Snapdragon 7-series is concerned, the company is expected to announce the 6nm Snapdragon 775G SoC as the successor to the Snapdragon 765G. At the beginning of the coming year, the company is also committed towards announcing a 5G-ready Snapdragon 4-series chipset.

Coming back to SD875, it is likely that the Samsung Galaxy S30 series and Xiaomi Mi 20 series could be the first smartphones to arrive the new flagship SoC. Huawei is also expected to announce the Huawei P50 series of flagship phones in Q1. It remains to be seen whether the P50 series will arrive with the SD875 chipset as the Chinese firm is unable to use Kirin SoCs due to the U.S. sanctions.
