Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro Flagships with SD8G1+ Expected in Second Half of 2022

In December 2021, Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12X, and Xiaomi 12 Pro flagship phones. While the Xiaomi 12X is powered by the Snapdragon 870 SoC, the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The Chinese manufacturer is expected to announce the SD8G1 powered Xiaomi 12 Ultra premium flagship within the first half of 2022. New information reveals that the company could be planning to launch new flagship phones named Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro in the second half of this year.

According to Xiaomiui, the Xiaomi 12S has a model number of 2206123SC (shortened model number: L3S) and is codenamed “diting.” On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12S Pro has a 2206122SC model number (shortened model number: L2S) and is codenamed “Unicom.”

Both phones are expected to arrive with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset, which is said to be an overclocked version of the existing SD8G1. While the SD8G1 is made by Samsung, the forthcoming SD8G1+ will be a 4nm chip manufactured by Taiwan-based TSMC. Unfortunately, there is no information on the specifications of the Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro. There is some speculation that even the Xiaomi 12 Ultra may feature the SD8G1+ chip.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is likely to go official in early May. The first smartphones featuring the new chip may debut in June. The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra and Lenovo’s Legion phone with the “Halo” codename are expected to arrive as the first smartphones with SD8G1+ onboard.

The Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 are also rumored to feature the new SD8G1+ chip. The SoC is likely to come with 1 x prime Cortex X2 core, 3 x Cortex A710 cores, and 4 x Cortex A510 cores.
