Huawei’s CEO for Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu has recently confirmed that the feverishly-anticipated Huawei P40 smartphone series will be announced towards end of March next year.
Ahead of it’s official unveiling, we’d already saw some of it’s near-official renders which showcase some distinct differences between the P40 and P40 Pro. Design-wise, the P40 is expected to sport a flat panel, while the P40 Pro on the other hand will arrive with a quad-curved panel.
Both devices will however, feature a pretty huge rectangular-shaped camera module on their back panel similar to what we’d seen from most recent smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71.
Now, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Security has shed some light on it’s revamped camera module – more specifically, it’s periscope telephoto lens.
According to him, the redesigned periscope telephoto lens of the Huawei P40 Pro will consists of an 8 megapixels (f/4.0 aperture) sensor which is capable of supporting an impressive 10x digital zoom. In comparison, the current Huawei P30 Pro and OPPO Reno 10x Zoom only support up to 5x optical zoom.

Even for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S11 trio, it is tipped to support only up to 5x optical zoom. Therefore, the P40 Pro will be the first in the industry to come with an insane 10x digital zoom capability.
As for other upcoming notable Huawei smartphones including those from the Nova and Mate series, Huawei will be bringing 5x optical zoom support to these devices next year.
Surely, the Huawei P40 Pro is on it’s way to regain the top position at DxOMark which is currently occupied by the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G.
