New POCO Phone is Coming to China, Hints Xiaomi Group VP

The POCO F1 smartphone was introduced in India in August 2018 and it was brought to some other markets like Europe. The phone wasn’t made available in China. However, its Weibo account is active since 2018. After taking a sabbatical last year, POCO was reintroduced this year as a separate brand in the previous month. Yesterday, POCO India unveiled the POCO X2 as its first phone for the year 2020. Going by the hint by none other than Xiaomi VP Chang Cheng, the POCO brand could be also heading to China.

On Weibo, a user asked Cheng whether the POCO phone will be arriving in China. The translated text of his reply suggests that China too will be receiving a POCO phone. It remains to be seen whether the POCO X2 that was announced yesterday will be also heading to China.

As POCO India General Manager, C Manmohan revealed that the brand will function independently. Neither the POCO X2 nor the older the POCO F1 can be found on Xiaomi India’s website. The POCO X2 has been introduced as a rival for the Realme X2 phone in India.

The POCO X2 is a rebranded version of the Redmi K30 4G phone that went official in China in December 2019. Hence, there is a possibility that the POCO X2 won’t be landing in China. Instead, the company may introduce the POCO F2 Lite which was recently seen in a leak that surfaced from China.

The POCO F2 is rumored to arrive as Snapdragon 765 powered device. It remains to be seen whether it will support 5G connectivity in China. The phone is rumored to be equipped with 6 GB of RAM, 5,000mAh battery and Android 10 OS. It is advisable to wait for further reports to know on POCO’s arrival in China.
