Time Travel: Here’s our first look at the Google Pixel 6a

Following the launch of the Google Pixel 6 series smartphones last month, Google is now reportedly working on a new mid-range model known as the Google Pixel 6a which will be succeeding this year’s Pixel 5a.

Ahead of it’s launch, we’re now able to enjoy our first look at the device courtesy of famed leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer who’d teamed up with 91Mobiles to offer us a series of high-quality CAD-based renderings of the phone.

As seen in the renders, the forthcoming Google Pixel 6a appears to share a close resemblance with the current Pixel 6 series smartphones on both the front and rear sides of the device.

Therefore, we can well expect to get the same flat display upfront with a central hole-punch cutout for it’s front-facing camera. The front display is said to be a 6.2” OLED display that comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

On the rear side, we’ll be looking at the same horizontal camera bar and a two-tone color scheme which characterized the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This camera bar appears to house a dual-camera setup along with a LED flash to help with low-light photography.

Sad to say, there weren’t much details pertaining to the specs of these cameras, although it was speculated to feature the same 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN1 sensor as the Google Pixel 6.

Other than that, the renders also confirmed the absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack on the upcoming Google Pixel 6a. This is a move which Samsung is also expected to make for it’s upcoming mid-range models like the Galaxy A33 5G and Galaxy A53 5G.

Under the hood, the Google Pixel 6a might be powered by the company’s in-house Tensor chipset – just like the rest of the Pixel 6 series smartphones. However, it’s not known whether it’ll be the same chip that powers the existing models.
